Our review of the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro. At $399 it fills a lot of needs for less than some other brands, but does it check all our boxes?
While you may have never heard of the brand, now is a good time to get acquainted, as this watch was designed to do absolutely everything, from complicated tasks like Base Map Navigation and BioMetric Tracking to the basic watch features we all crave like a wrist flash light and daily reminders.
The best thing about this watch is it’s combination of the most advanced features on the planet without compromising simplicity – Amazfit states that the T-Rex 3 Pro is “built for every adventure” and they’re not wrong. This watch can power your long run or track your heart rate fluctuations.
It can remind you of your upcoming meeting agenda or tell you to get up off the couch, while also easily connecting to your power meter, heart rate monitor or guiding you through turn-by-turn directions for a long run in a new city.
Who Is It Good For?
- Novice Runners – Between the app and the watch, every touchpoint is simple, perfect for a newbie runner.
- Current Garmin Users – If you’re looking for a refreshed app experience that is designed with athletes in mind, you’ll want to make the switch.
- Trail Runners – With base map navigation and turn-by-turn directions, this watch is perfect for the trail.
- Daily Usage – The biometric sensors to track stress and sleep make this a formidable opponent to other wearables.
- Value for Price – Definitely. Only $399.99 versus the comparable model at $1,000.
Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro Review
While there are many running watches out there on the market to choose from, we feel comfortable stating that Amazfit’s T-Rex 3 Pro is bringing refreshed energy into a sea of sameness. Yes, many watches are offering more advanced biometric tracking and are also increasing their battery life.
But Amazfit is doing so with the user in mind, pairing their technology with a user-friendly experience that combines the most advanced features with a simple user-interface at a competitive price point – and that is why it’s the go-go-gadget of smart watches.

Activity Tracking
To start an activity on the watch, you simply click the upper right button and scroll through the many (MANY) options. The stock options for this watch range from Outdoor Cycling and Outdoor Running to Hyrox and Outdoor Freediving.
Luckily, Outdoor Running is the top option and you’re able to modify all activity options on the watch itself versus having to utilize the app. You can shuffle order of importance, delete anything you do not find necessary, or search into other options. I very much enjoyed how easy it was to find “Kayaking” and then add it in and start my activity.
Like most watches, there is a “GPS waiting period” which is similar to the time it takes any smart watch to find a GPS. The Amazfit’s display gives you a lovely, “GO” which lights up green when it’s ready to find GPS.
You can also override it, similar to other GPS watches – and start your run without. I enjoyed the start-up interface for activities where you can simply swipe up and click ‘Assistant’ which gives you easy access to setting or adjusting your Workout Goal, adjusting alerts, and easily setting your intervals.
Similar to other watches, you can adjust what notifications you’d like to receive – HR, Time, or Power – but what differs to me the most is how simple it is to find and select what you truly need.
Post activity, I enjoyed the differing visual interfaces that showed me my stats. Again, all customizable, but the stock options are beautiful.
My favorite is the Heart Rate graph which visually represents your spikes throughout a workout. All activity histories can be easily found with the selecting of the lower right hand “Back” button. No need to open the App.
Display & User Experience
There are 3 core features of this watch which set it apart from all of the competition. First, the display and user experience. The scratch-resistant sapphire glass screen is incredibly vibrant and responsive.
The exceptional visibility provides brightness on dark trails or in bright sunlight without straining your eyes. Like all of the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro’s features, you can set your brightness with the touch of a button.
The user experience and journey were clearly created with athletes in mind. While you’re getting a watch that can do nearly everything, the consumer journey to achieve each task is simple.
I have used that word countless times throughout this review because I cannot stress enough how easy this watch is to use (after the initial set-up). I would feel comfortable giving it to my Mom, who is in her 60s yet still wants to track her mileage and have her tunes connected to her watch.
But I also would feel comfortable recommending it to my ultra running tech-head friend who is obsessed with their Garmin Fenix – I know this watch can do everything that they want without the higher price point.
Heart Rate
Second, the T-Rex 3 Pro is equipped with an advanced BioTracker sensor, making it one of the best wrist heart-rate monitors we’ve ever worn. The heart rate monitor is highly accurate, which not only makes it a reliable companion to your workouts, but it also provides pro-grade accuracy for your sleep. While other sleep wearables (Eh-hum, my Whoop) can fail to track the nap time of a low-HR athlete, the T-Rex 3 Pro embraces what we’re deeming “Santa Technology” – it knows when you’re sleeping and it knows when you’re awake.
Because of its advanced biometric tracker and core features like BioCharge, Stress Tracking and Sleep Tracking, as well as the ever simple reminders to “Move” and “Drink Water!,” the T-Rex 3 Pro has made itself a prime competitor to the Oura Ring and Whoop. It’s the watch you want if you only want one thing on your wrist to do it all.
Battery Life
Last, but absolutely not least, the T-Rex 3 Pro has an exceptional battery life. While many fitness watches succumb to the age-old battery drainage with the addition of new features, this watch is immune.
The watch will last through multi-day treks or race weeks or it’ll simply stay powered for days at a time to track every biometric available so that you can reach your peak performance. I’ve been using the watch for 3 weeks non-stop and I have yet to charge it. We’re sitting at 19% and still going strong.
App Integration
Like all Amazfit wearables, the T-Rex 3 Pro is powered by the Zepp App, a free companion app that is shockingly easy to use. It allows you to set up and customize your watch, check on your nutrition and sleep recovery, and track fitness.
And while the Zepp App is quite intuitive compared to the competition, there are some features which we can live without, like the ability to purchase 100+ different types of watch faces, most of which are far too complex.
The watch updates are also quite arduous, taking a minimum of 10 minutes to complete. However, if you’re used to the Garmin App, this one is a breath of fresh air – it’s like the Whoop App meets the Garmin App with the guidance of a tech-savvy athlete who is also a UX-designer.
While they still have some improvements to make, we certainly welcome a new challenger into the marketplace to push all brands to truly listen to their consumer base.
Quick Take Pro’s and Con’s
- Bright, responsive touchscreen
- Excellent Battery Life
- Easily customizable straps with classic pin buckle
- Does not come with a USB-C, no one needs another one. We love that.
- Set-Up isn’t Intuitive
- Too many convoluted features, like 100+ different watch faces, most of which are far too complex and cost $$$.
- Updates take 10-15 minutes minimum
Have you tested anything from Zepp health?
How do you feel about all the features on GPS watches now? Too much? Not enough? We love to get your feedback for reviews!
Who Tried It?
Leslie is an elite off-road cyclist who dabbles in running. While a lover of all things fitness tech, brands usually have her test products simply because she’s really, really (REALLY) good at breaking them. You can find her in San Francisco, CA, where she rides and runs through rain, fog and sun for thousands of miles each year.
