There are plenty of athleisure shoes to pick from, but not all of them deliver beyond the style points. We tested the While on Earth Move Trainer to see if it’s just another fashion pick or a shoe that actually earns a spot in your daily rotation. while on earth move trainerWhile on Earth is a newer brand started by four athletes who are especially well-known in the CrossFit world. So right away you’re thinking, okay, these folks probably know a thing or two about comfort and performance, which means their shoes have to be legit, right?

For now, the brand is keeping things simple, focusing on shoes that fit into your everyday life.

Whether it’s your daily routine, time in the gym, or just walking around, the goal is comfort and support without overcomplicating it.

At first glance, the Move Trainer looks like a mix of Allbirds, Nobull, and maybe even a little skater shoe vibe thrown in .

But looks only tell part of the story, so let’s dig in and see what this While on Earth Move Trainer is really about.

Who Is It Good For?

Who is the While on Earth Move Trainer a good fit for? Let’s break it down with some common categories:
  • Walking Workout: Absolutely, you’ll be the most stylish one power walking on the trails!
  • Wide feet: There’s plenty of space, maybe too much for some.
  • Standing all day: Perfect amount of support to keep you comfortable for many hours.
  • Daily wear: 100% grab these for travelling, running errands, or for wear to work, depending on your dress code

While on Earth Move Trainer Overview

Okay, confession time, I’ve been a CrossFit fan for years. I’ve followed Brooke Wells and Matt Fraser forever, and even had the chance to see them compete in person at the CrossFit Games a few years back. When these shoes started popping up, I was definitely intrigued.

I’d seen them on social media here and there, especially on Brooke’s page, and was curious to find out how they would actually fit and feel.while on earth move trainer outsolePersonally, I’m all about shoes that can do it all. If you tell me a pair can handle the gym, long walks, and still work with a casual outfit, I’m in. Comfort always wins over fashion for me.

And in many ways, these do check those boxes. But the design still feels like it needs a little fine-tuning. That said, it’s the brand’s first attempt at a shoe, so really, they can only build from here.

Flip the Move Trainer over, and you won’t find anything flashy – just a straightforward design with a small heel bevel at the back.

The full rubber outsole does its job, giving you a solid grip whether you’re in the gym or walking outside on a rainy day.

So far, I’ve been impressed that even after a handful of wears, there’s barely any sign of wear.

That said, it’s definitely on the heavier side. Most of that weight seems to come from the thick slab of EVA foam in the midsole, which adds comfort but also bulk.

Move Trainer Specifications

Pros
  • Stain and water-resistant mesh
  • Durable rubber outsole that’s going to last a lot of wear and tear.
  • Lots of colors to pick from.
Cons
  • Runs a little big, definitely size down (especially if you have a narrow foot!)
  • Laces are on the shorter side, making it a little challenging to switch the lacing style.
  • It’s a heavier shoe.

While on Earth Move Trainer Fit and Feel

The Move Trainer definitely runs big. I ordered my normal women’s size 11 and had way more space than I needed. When I looked down, it kind of felt like I was wearing clown shoes.

If I had to do it again, I’d go down to a 10.5, maybe even a 10, and be totally fine.

The fit is designed to be natural and anatomical (aka shaped like your foot), very much in line with what you’d expect from Altra. The toe box has tons of room, never tight, then tapers just a touch through the midfoot.

But if you’ve got narrow feet, these probably aren’t your shoes. Even if you play around with the lacing, your foot is still going to move around. You’ll be happier with one of the options we rounded up in this list of the best shoes for narrow feet.while on earth move trainer heel cushion

The overall feel is like a nice hug for your foot. Not the big, squeeze the life out of you hug, but the quick “hey, good to see you” kind. Just right.

Around the heel collar and tongue, there’s just enough cushioning to make the fit cozy without feeling bulky.

The upper is built with ThriveKnit, which sounds fancy because it kind of is. It’s soft, flexible, and breathable, yet still reinforced to maintain its shape.

While on Earth added a few structured overlays too, which gives you that little extra support you don’t realize you want until you have it.

The real perk here is that the mesh is anti-stain and water-resistant. Translation: you can step in a puddle or spill your post-run iced coffee (gasp!) and still keep these shoes looking good for the long haul. while on earth move trainer mesh

The outsole is made from EVA foam, which basically hits that sweet spot; it’s not too soft, not too firm, just right for all-day comfort.

You can be on your feet for hours without ending the day with achy feet or blisters.

There’s also enough cushioning to handle cross-training, a fitness class, or even a strength session.

But if your goal is heavy deadlifts or you really want that grounded, minimal feel, I’d point you toward something like the R.A.D. One V2 instead.

Would I wear these for a run? Honestly, no.

They’re not built for miles on the road or a treadmill. But if you need to sprint through the airport to catch a flight or hustle across the street before the light changes, they’ll get the job done.

Similar Shoes to While On Earth

What’s currently out there to rival this daily shoe? We’ve tested a few that feel similar, but different based on the brand fit:

Even with the sizing issues, this feels like the kind of shoe that’s going to stick around in my rotation.

Easy to grab for a quick workout, comfy enough for errands, and versatile enough to style with jeans and a flannel when it’s time to go leaf peeping, since it’s finally that time here in Colorado!

Basically, the While on Earth Move Trainer is a solid everyday option that looks good without trying too hard.

Our Verdict

80%

While we love the look of the Move Trainer, ultimately, there are less expensive options available. The sizing is going to be tricky for a lot of folks, and it’s just an all around heavier shoe.
