If you want a trail shoe that can handle just about anything you throw at it, the Merrell Agility Peak 6 is a solid pick. It’s built for running, hiking, and long days out on the trails, making it an easy grab for everyday adventures.
Trail shoes have come a long way. The pairs I’ve been testing lately don’t feel bulky or brick-like the way older models sometimes did.
They’re lighter, smoother, and much more comfortable for those mixed terrain days.
Here in Colorado, trails can change quickly from smooth and dirty to rocky and technical, so it’s reassuring to have a shoe that keeps you comfortable, stable, and protected when things get unpredictable.
If you’re looking for an all-out fast trail racer, this isn’t it.
The Merrell Agility Peak 6 is more of your go to adventure shoe. The one you lace up when you’re heading out for miles and want to feel confident wherever the trail takes you.
Who Is It Good For?
- Wide Feet: Not ideal because the fit is a little narrow, and there’s no wide option.
- Technical Trails: Hits the mark especially with 5mm lugs.
- Long Runs: They’re going to keep your feet comfortable for many hours on your feet.
- Front of the Pack: Not a shoe you’d grab for race day or speed. Keep it for slow, easy days.
Merrell Agility Peak 6 Overview
If you loved the Agility Peak 5, you’ll be glad to know Merrell didn’t go and change everything.
The updates here feel more like small tweaks to an already solid recipe, just enough to make it feel a little more dialed in.
This isnt the shoe you’re grabbing for a speed workout or to chase a trail PR. It’s the pair you keep by the door for the days you just want to get outside and enjoy the trails.
Whether that’s a run, hike, or long walk on more technical terrain, it’s built for comfort and grip.
And can we talk about the colorways for a second? They’re bright, bold, and honestly hard to miss on the trails.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a trail shoe with this much personality.
The midsole uses Merrell’s FloatPro foam, designed to add a little energy return in every step. For me, it didn’t feel especially lively when trying to pick up the pace and was a bit flat. I felt like I was working even harder just trying to add a few strides.
Where it did shine was comfort.
The cushioning kept my feet from getting beat up, especially on more technical trails. I didn’t feel every rock, stick, or root along the way, which is sometimes the case with trail shoes.
There’s also a forefoot rock plate, which adds another layer of protection. If you’re someone who enjoys feeling the ground underfoot, you’re not going to get much of that with the Agility Peak 6.
Flip the shoe over, and you’ll see a full Vibram Megagrip outsole. That high-performance rubber is built to bite into loose dirt, rocks, and slick sections of trail while also holding up to plenty of miles.
The Agility Peak 6 features 5mm Vibram Traction lugs, and I’ll admit I was a little worried they’d feel crunchy on pavement. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
They gave me plenty of grip on snowy, icy trails but still felt smooth when I popped back onto roads or packed surfaces. Merrell said the Vibram Traction lugs will increase traction by up to 25%!
I even forgot to bring a pair of shoes to change into after a few runs and ended up wearing them while running errands. Honestly, I barely noticed them, but I wouldn’t recommend making that a habit, as the lugs could get worn down.

Merrell Agility Peak 6 Fit
I wore my usual Women’s size 11, and the Agility Peak 6 felt great right out of the box, which is always a win.
The fit is true to size, but it runs a bit on the narrow side, with not a lot of extra room in the toe box. Which isn’t always ideal when your feet start to swell after many hours on your feet.
There isn’t a wide option available right now, so if you typically need more space, these may not be the shoes for you.
We love the Brooks Cascadia (available in wide), and for even more room, the Altra Experience Wild 2.
The tongue is pretty minimal in padding and sits flush against your foot. No digging, no shifting around, just a secure, comfortable fit.
And of course, my favorite detail: a full-gusseted design to help keep out debris and those tiny trail rocks that always seem to sneak in.
If you like to fine-tune your lacing, there’s also a second eyelet so you can play around with it and get a more customized fit.
There are plenty of hooks on the shoe so you can attach gaiters to keep trail debris out of your shoes.
The upper mesh is made of a thicker material, so I’m not sure how it’ll hold up when temperatures really warm up. But for now, in the winter or that weird in-between season, they’re perfect.
The Merrell Agility Peak 6 have defininatley made it into my trail shoe rotation!

Our Verdict
We really loved this trail shoe from Merrell for all the fun adventures we want to have, fit is the only thing keeping it from a perfect score. Since it’s a little narrow with no wide option, it won’t be perfect for every runner.
