I slipped on the Saucony Hurricane 25 and immediately felt the stability and plush cushioning. The updated foam is soft yet responsive, and the fit is secure without being tight. Great first impression for easy miles or recovery days.
When I first opened the box I actually said, “whoa, that is one chonky shoe!” which made me really excited and a little bit nervous. I personally love a good cushion, but sometimes too much can be just that, too much. However, the dual-compound midsole combining PWRRUN PB foam for softness and PWRRUN foam for durability made for an amazingly light shoe considering the stack height and wide base.
I put this stability shoe to the test over multiple types of runs and surfaces, and I can honestly say, don’t let it’s size scare you. It is one dreamy ride for those easy miles.
Who Is It Good For?
- Wide Feet: The forefoot is very generous and comfortable, but if you need extra room, it is available in wide.
- Heavier Runners: With the premium max cushioning and the stable wide base, this is an ideal shoe for heavier runners.
- Long Runs: Great for some long comfortable miles with extra stability.
- Front of the Pack: Will make a great recovery run shoe, but not picking up the pace.
This will be a great shoe for anyone wanting a lot of cushion and stability in a daily trainer, especially heavier runners or those needing a little more joint love. For a stability shoe, it doesn’t feel overly corrective.
Saucony Hurricane 25 Overview
Building upon the foundation of its predecessor, the Hurricane 24, the 25th iteration introduces refinements aimed at enhancing comfort and performance. I can really see why Saucony brought back this shoe not long after announcing they were discontinuing the model. And it seems they just keep making it better.
In fact, they knocked over an ounce off the weight!!
That was one of our biggest complaints with the Hurricane 24. Now this shoe feels more like you’d want to take it on longer runs and the slight rocker helps you roll through the foot better.
My first few steps in these, I immediately felt the PWRRUN PB super foam. Such a marshmallow like feeling with the help of the additional layer of PWRRUN foam responsiveness.
I have taken these out on roads, gravel trail, wet roads, and treadmill. All have been amazing. I am at the end of half marathon training and was starting to get some aches from all the miles and from my over pronation. A few easy runs with the cushion, updated geometry and enhanced CenterPath Technology my legs were feeling fresh and strong.
Will these be for everyone? No. That’s ok, there is no one perfect shoe for everyone. This is a LOT of shoe. But they also feel amazing and will be great for those nice easy miles, long miles, or joint friendly recovery miles.
My previous experience with a premium max cushion shoe was a Hoka Bondi which I honestly hated. Which was why I was nervous for the Saucony Hurricane. But, unlike the Bondi my foot felt far more supported, no hot spots, and so light weight.
To be clear, light-weight is definitely relative. These are not the light-weight of a Saucony Endorphin Pro. They may use the same PWRRUN PB foam but that is as far as the similarities go.
Coach Amanda: When the Hurricane 24 arrived I was stoked. As someone who doesn’t run in stability shoes, I’d found myself using them years ago. They were just a nice ride and definitely nothing overly corrective. The 24 came in hot with some massive cushion and it the 25 seems to have made some improvements.
Unlike Gillian, I’m a sucker for a big old cushioned shoe and was excited for this too. Unlike many of the massive stack heights, this remains so stable due to the flares and heel bevel. There’s reason it was recommended in our best running shoes for heavier runners list!

Saucony Hurricane 25 Fit
This shoe definitely runs true to size. I sometimes have to get a wide in my running shoes, but the toe box on these was perfect. Roomy without needing to heel lock the laces.
The premium engineered mesh upper also makes it feel almost stretchy without having seems or edges. It has a nice padded tongue that fits snuggly and comfortably without feeling tight or bunchy. The material does feel a bit thick so may get hot on warmer weather runs.
One thing that made me nervous was when I first put them on, I could feel a ridge at the heel collar. It seems pretty far down my heel compared to what I was used to. Once getting running, it was almost like it was locking my heel in place. Helping instead of hindering or rubbing. Once again adding a bit of stability and support.
Saucony Hurricane 25 Feel
Sliding into this shoe and standing for the first time was definitely noteworthy. From putting my foot in, to pulling the tongue taught, I almost felt like Cinderella putting on the glass slipper made just for my foot. Standing, the mix of the PWRRUN PB and PWRRUN foams cushioned my feet without them collapsing in.
These also gave my joints a lovely break. The combination of foams with the CenterPath Technology eased sore legs and didn’t bother my arthritic knees one bit.
As an over-pronator I appreciate the stability aspect of the shoe. It is not over powering as I feel it is more in the shaping and construction of the back cushion. It is more of a support than a correction with the wider base and built up side walls so it didn’t let my heel slide inward and collapse which I love given the amount of cushion.
Similar Shoes to the Saucony Hurricane 25
I’ve tested a few that feel similar, but different based on the brand fit:
- Hoka Gaviota– Max cushioning stability shoe that also feels really stable.
- Brooks Glycerin Max– Max cushioning, a little bit bouncier and also not a stability shoe.
- New Balance Fresh Foam X 860v14 – Stability shoe with a little less plush cushioning and lower stack height.
Our Verdict
There is much to appreciate about the Saucony Hurricane and they will be a go-to shoe for our heavier athletes. Our lower score is because they aren’t a shoe for everyone due to the size and stability.
