Story 1: The Return of Shri Ram from Vanvaas to Ayodhya in happiness of Shri Ram returning to Ayodhya from exile
This is the story and Karan know almost all of India that we return from exile of Diwali Ram Ji gladly celebrate. Suffering from the wrong thoughts of Manthara, Kaikai, the mother of Bharata, pledged to send Shri Ram to exile from his father Dasharatha.
In such a situation, Shri Ram considers his father's order to be respected and sets out for 14 years of exile along with mother Sita and brother Lakshmana. In the forest, Ravana kidnaps mother Sita with deceit.
Then Shri Rama along with Sugriva's monkey army and Lord Hanuman defeats Ravana's army and Shri Rama slaughters Ravana and rescues Sita Mata. The day is celebrated as Dussehra and when Shri Rama returns to his home in Ayodhya, people from all over the state light a lamp and celebrate happiness at the time of the night, to mark his arrival. Since then the name of that day is known as Deepawali.
Story 2: Return of the Pandavas to their kingdom The Return of the Pandavas
You must have heard the story of Mahabharata . The Kauravas, with the help of Shakuni Mama, had snatched everything of the Pandavas in the game of chess and even had to leave the state and go into exile for 13 years.
On this same Kartik Amavasya, those 5 Pandavas (Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva) returned to their kingdom from their 13 years of exile. In the joy of his return, the people of his kingdom lit a lamp and rejoiced. This is also a very important reason for celebrating Deepawali.
Story 3: Accession of King Vikramaditya King Vikramaditya Coronation
King Vikramaditya was a great emperor of ancient India. He was a very ideal king and has always been known for his generosity, courage and scholarly patronage. He was crowned on this Kartik Amavasya.
Story 4: Incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, Incarnation of Mata Lakshmi
Every time the festival of Deepawali is celebrated on the "Amavasya" day of the month of Kartik according to the Hindi calendar, because on this day Mata Lakshmi ji incarnated in the universe during the Samudra Manthan. Mata Lakshmi is considered the goddess of wealth and prosperity. That is why along with lighting the lamp in every house, we also worship Goddess Lakshmi.

People of Sikh community also celebrate this festival after the release of their 6th Guru Shri Hargovind ji from Gwalior jail who was in captivity of Mughal Emperor Jahangir.
Story 6: On this day Lord Shri Krishna killed Narakasura Rakshash On this Day Lord Shri Krishna Killed Narakasur
Another biggest story behind celebrating the festival of Deepawali is that on this day Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura. Narakasura was the king of Pragjyotishpur (which is today a province of South Nepal).
Narakasura was so cruel that he snatched even the magnificent earrings of Devmata Aditi. Devamata Aditi was a relative of Satyabhama, the wife of Shri Krishna. Narakasura tied a total of sixteen god's daughters.
With the help of Shri Krishna, Satyabhama killed Narakasura and freed all the goddesses from his clutches. This is also one of the main reasons for celebrating Deepawali.
