The Craft Endurance 3 came out on a midweek run that started flat along Crissy Field, worked into the upper Presidio, where the hills were enough to wake up the calves. Within the first mile, it felt protective, and even a bit lively by the end of the run my legs still had enough to finish strong.

Craft Endurance 3 ReviewOn paper, this is a high cushion trainer. Px Foam midsole, 9 mm drop with a reworked upper for better hold. That all sounds reasonable until you take it over cracked sidewalks, metal plates, and the uneven patches that show up everywhere in San Francisco.

That is usually where things either hold together or fall apart.

I used it across a mix of runs and over 100 miles. Easy days, steady aerobic work, longer efforts, and a few runs where I pushed late on tired legs to see if it had anything extra.

After more miles, it became clear this shoe stays in a fairly tight lane. It is not soft and sinky and it is not quick or sharp. It lands somewhere in between, where the cushioning takes the edge off impact, the rocker keeps things moving, and the upper keeps your foot from moving when the ground gets inconsistent.

There are tradeoffs. The drop stands out, especially on the hills. And when you try to change pace quickly, the shoe is not as snappy as alternatives with plates.

Craft Endurance 3 InstepBut once the run settles, when you are just rolling through miles without thinking much about it, the Endurance 3 starts to come together.

The Craft Endurance 3 is a steady daily trainer for runners who want cushioning, control, and some surface flexibility. It feels most at home on roads, bike paths, and light mixed dirt terrain where protection matters more than speed.

It is not a shoe I would choose for workouts or quick pace changes. It is what I would reach for when the goal is to stack miles, protect the legs, and keep things simple.

Who is it Good For?

Who is the Craft Endurance 3 a good fit for, let’s break it down by some common categories:
  • Wide Feet: Mixed. The forefoot gives some room, but the heel and midfoot lock down more. If you carry width in the rear or have a higher volume midfoot, it may feel restrictive early.
  • Heavier Runners: Yes. The 38 mm heel stack and Px Foam midsole bring enough protection and structure to stay supportive over longer mileage.
  • Long Runs: Yes. This is where the shoe stands out. The cushioning holds, the platform stays stable, and the ride is solid in rhythm.
  • Front of the Pack: Not really. It can handle steady slightly uptempo running, but it does not feel sharp or quick when the pace really comes down.

This works best for runners who want a controlled, protective daily trainer for easy mileage, long aerobic runs, and mixed city surfaces. Less ideal if you want something plush, wide fitting, or highly responsive to pace changes and workouts.

Craft Endurance 3 Overview

I ran most of my miles in this on roads and the usual mix of surfaces around the city. Sidewalk seams, painted crosswalks, and uneven curb cuts. The kind of terrain that shows quickly whether a shoe stabilizes you or just claims to.

Craft Endurance 3 OverviewAt first, the ride comes across slightly firm. Not harsh, just not immediately forgiving. It never turns bouncy as it has a structured feel that makes it shine mid long run when form starts to get sloppy.

The best run I had in this shoe was a longer aerobic effort that started along the flat Great Highway, climbed up to the Presidio, then dropped back down toward the Marina on rough pavement. Around mile seven or eight, I felt noticeably in control.

Where it struggles is when you pull it out of rhythm. I tried picking up the pace quickly a few times and it always lagged a bit. Not dramatically, but enough to feel it. It prefers gradual shifts over a sudden pick up or push on a hill.

The Endurance 3 also has enough outsole grip for light trail sections and park paths. I would not take it onto anything technical, but for dry dirt, packed gravel, and mixed urban park routes, it has more range than most other trainers.

I kept coming back to this on longer aerobic days. It protects your feet and legs without disappearing into softness. I would not use it for workouts nor would I reach for it when I want something quick. But if the goal is to stack miles, stay comfortable, and not think much about what is on your feet, it holds up.

  • The upper feels more supportive while still breathing well.
  • The heel cup is narrow and secure, improving hold but not working for every foot.
  • The forefoot allows more natural movement than the rearfoot.
  • The outsole expands the range across light trails, packed dirt, and rough city routes.

The shoe has a clean, technical look and a reasonable weight given the stack. It reads more like a focused daily trainer than a casual crossover, even though it can handle light trail use. I tend to prefer the simpler, solid colorways which Craft delivers on across the color options

Quick Take

Pros

  • Protective cushioning for longer daily miles
  • Stable feel on flat uneven city pavement (even with the large drop)
  • Secure heel and midfoot hold

Cons

  • Heel might not work for everyone
  • Not quick enough for workouts or sharp pace pick ups
  • 9 mm drop can be noticeable on climbs and descents

Craft Endurance 3 Fit

The Craft Endurance 3 fits true to size in length, locked in midfoot, and a more forgiving forefoot. This is a huge statement because previous years we’ve always seen Craft run small, but that seems to be getting adjusted.

The shape feels deliberate and reasonable. The heel is narrow and structured. I did not get heel slip (runners knot), but I was aware of the hold during the first few runs. Runners sensitive to heel pressure may notice it.

Craft Endurance 3 LacesThe midfoot hold is firm. The upper keeps your foot centered without needing much lace tension. I had to be careful not to overtighten since the structure is already doing most of the work. The tongue sits clean across the top of the foot and does enough to protect from lace pressure

The forefoot opens up more than the rear of the shoe suggests. My toes had enough space to move naturally on longer runs, and the mesh gave a bit as my feet warmed up.

The one piece engineered mesh upper breathes well and holds the foot without feeling heavy. It is not soft or plush, but it stays consistent when the ground gets uneven.

Craft Endurance 3 Feel

The landing has a controlled compression. Not soft, not rigid, more like there is resistance built into the foam. The heel takes the edge off impact, especially later in the week when the legs are carrying some fatigue. The drop is noticeable here, there is a lot of the Px Foam under the heel.

Craft Endurance 3 OutsoleThrough the midfoot, things firm up, which helps. It keeps the shoe from getting sloppy and gives the transition some direction.

The forefoot is where it flattens out a bit. It works, but it does not add much. When I pushed forward during strides, it felt flat compared to how it handled steady running.

The rocker works best when you are locked into a consistent pace. It does not force anything. It just keeps you moving forward without much noise. I never felt the shoe fade under me thanks to the rocker. It stays consistent, which matters more than anything flashy over time.

The outsole adds some confidence on light mixed terrain. On road it feels smooth, and on packed dirt or gravel it gives enough grip to keep things controlled.

Similar Shoes to the Craft Endurance 3

We’ve tested a few great cushioned trainers that feel similar, but different based on the brand fit:

  • ASICS Gel Nimbus 27 – FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam and PureGEL: Softer and more comfort focused, with an easier step in feel and less structure. The Craft Endurance 3 feels firmer, more controlled, and better suited to mixed surfaces.
  • Saucony Triumph 23 – PWRRUN PB foam: More bounce and a lighter feel underfoot. The Craft Endurance 3 is more stable and more grounded.
  • Puma Velocity Nitro 4 – NITROFOAM midsole: More flexible and easier to pick up the pace in. The Craft Endurance 3 has more depth for longer efforts and holds up better late.

Our Verdict

89%

A daily trainer with plenty of cushion to handle long mileage without being an overly stacked max cushion shoe. It’s not the fastest shoe, but for many midpack runners it will easily handle easy runs to tempo work comfortably.
