How study done
The study was conducted by Massachusetts General Hospital for Children and Harvard Medical School, USA. They included about 386 boys and 418 girls in the study, who were aged between 12 and 17. Seen for about five days and were given an actigraph that recorded their activity and rest periods. With the help of this data, they examined each child's activities, indicating their social jet lag status as well as their preference for getting up early or staying late.

The researchers also collected their anthropogenic measurements that measure bone, muscle, and fat tissue and define their body composition.

Research results
The study was published in JAMA Pediatrics, which concluded that sleeping late at night is largely associated with obesity only in girls and not boys. Typically, late sleeping girls had an average waist size of 0.58 cm and increased body fat by about 0.16 kg.
