Six months ago, I couldn’t have named a single Under Armour running shoe. Sure, I knew Sharon Lokedi had won the Boston Marathon wearing them, but beyond that? I had no idea what to expect.

Under Armour Velociti 3 OverviewSo when I got the chance to test the same shoe that carried her to back-to-back Boston victories, I couldn’t wait to see what all the fuss was about.

The Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 is a no-nonsense supershoe built with one goal in mind: helping runners go fast. It combines a carbon plate, dual-layer HOVR+ foam, and an aggressive rocker into a lightweight package that’s designed to reward efficient, consistent running.

What’s interesting is that Under Armour didn’t chase every modern supershoe trend. While many brands have leaned into towering stacks of ultra-soft foam, the Velociti Elite 3 takes a more traditional approach with a firmer ride, a low 2 mm drop, and a surprisingly stable platform.

After nearly 90 miles of marathon workouts, tempo runs, long runs, and plenty of easy miles during my Chicago Marathon build, I can confidently say yes. It’s fast, comfortable, and one of the biggest surprises I’ve tested this year.

Our Verdict

88%

The Velociti Elite 3 may not be the flashiest supershoe on the market, but it quietly delivers where it matters most. If you enjoy a firmer, more traditional race-day ride that prioritizes consistency over gimmicks, this one deserves a spot on your shortlist.

Who Is It Good For?

Who is the Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 a good fit for? Let’s break it down with some common categories:
  • Wide Feet: Under Armour shoes tend to fit snug, and this one has a narrower shape through the midfoot.
  • Heavier Runners: The HOVR+SuperFoam is comfortable, but the feel may still be a bit firm for heavier runners.
  • Long Runs: For sure! The smooth, cushioned platform is perfect for longer runs and races!
  • Front of the Pack: This shoe has won Boston. Twice. It’s fast, but runners in all corrals can rock it!

The Velociti Elite 3 blends speed with surprising comfort, making it a fantastic option for runners chasing everything from a new half marathon PR to their next marathon finish line.

Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 Overview

The Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 enters the supershoe conversation with some serious credentials. It’s the racer that carried Sharon Lokedi to back-to-back victories at the 2025 and 2026 Boston Marathons, proving it’s capable of performing at the sport’s highest level.

Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 OverviewUnlike many of today’s supershoes, the Velociti Elite 3 takes a more traditional approach.

It pairs a low heel-to-toe drop with a firmer ride and a highly responsive HOVR+ midsole, creating a shoe that rewards efficient mechanics over maximum softness.

That makes it an intriguing option for runners who prefer a more connected feel underfoot, rather than the towering, ultra-plush platforms that have become the norm.

Whether that formula translates into a great race-day experience for the rest of us? That’s exactly what I set out to discover after logging plenty of miles in the shoe.

Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 InstepSince I’m at the beginning of my training block for this year’s Chicago Marathon, I got to put the shoe through the full spectrum of workouts during testing!

I walked away genuinely impressed. The Velociti Elite 3 is fast enough for race day, yet comfortable enough that I found myself reaching for it on easy runs too: a rare combination in today’s supershoe market

Under Armour Velociti 3 Fit

I’m just going to come out and say it: Under Armour absolutely nailed the fit of this shoe.

The heel is where the Velociti Elite 3 really shines. There’s a generous amount of padding around the collar that creates a secure, locked-in fit without feeling bulky.

Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 Review After testing plenty of supershoes with stripped-down heel construction, I appreciated the extra comfort here. I never experienced heel slippage or irritation, and the shoe inspired confidence from the very first run.

The midfoot tapers slightly, but it never felt restrictive. Instead, it provides just enough structure to keep your foot centered without overdoing it. It’s a nice balance of security and freedom, especially during faster efforts.

Up front, the toe box opens up just enough to let your toes spread naturally without feeling sloppy. I also love how evenly cushioned the shoe feels from heel to toe.

Too many race-day shoes feel overly firm in one area or another, but the Velociti Elite 3 maintains a consistent platform throughout the entire length of the shoe. Plus, it has a true to size fit, as I felt right at home in my typical size 11!

Under Armour Velociti 3 CushionThe upper deserves a shoutout, too. Under Armour struck a really nice balance here. It’s incredibly lightweight and breathable, but doesn’t sacrifice comfort or security to shave a few grams.

Through the forefoot and midfoot, there’s very little unnecessary structure. Just some subtle reinforcement around the lacing system and light seam taping to keep your foot centered. The result is an upper that disappears on the run while still providing a confident, race-ready fit.

In the end, the fit quietly becomes one of the shoe’s biggest strengths. It disappears on your foot, allowing you to focus less on the shoe itself and more on what really matters: how fast it feels once you start picking up the pace.

Under Armour Velociti 3 Feel

The Velociti Elite 3 feels a bit like an old-school supershoe, and I mean that in the best way.

Underfoot, the full-length HOVR+ foam delivers a responsive ride, but it’s noticeably firmer than many of today’s premium racing foams. If you’re expecting an ultra-soft, trampoline-like feel, this isn’t it.

Under Armour Veociti Elite HeelInstead, the ride is smooth, controlled, and keeps you connected to the road.

One thing I really appreciated is that the shoe gets better with time. After about 20 to 30 miles, the midsole softened up and became noticeably more responsive. It’s one of those shoes that rewards a little patience before showing its full potential.

The standout feature is the incredibly low 2 mm heel-to-toe drop. Combined with the aggressive rocker, it naturally encourages a quick, efficient transition through your stride.

The heel compresses a bit more than the forefoot, while the carbon-plated forefoot stays noticeably stiffer, creating a ride that feels smooth and propulsive once you settle into pace.

Where this shoe really shines is during longer efforts. Marathon pace, half marathon efforts, and tempo runs all felt fantastic, and it was surprisingly comfortable even on easy miles.

When I pushed down toward 5K pace and faster, though, the shoe felt a touch heavier than many of today’s top-tier supershoes and didn’t quite turn over as quickly. That’s not necessarily a knock, it’s simply a shoe that seems happiest once you lock into a steady rhythm.

Under Armour Velociti Elite 3 OutsoleThe outsole also deserves some praise. Grip has been excellent on both roads and the track, and after roughly 90 miles of testing, mine shows almost no signs of wear. It should have no problem holding up through plenty of training and race-day miles.

The Velociti Elite 3 won’t be the right choice for everyone, but if you prefer a firmer, more controlled ride over the ultra-soft feel that’s become common in today’s supershoes, it’s a compelling option. It rewards smooth, consistent pacing and feels right at home over the half marathon and marathon distances.
