The Nike Mind 001 just dropped in a new colorway and it is already flying off virtual shelves. Nike’s most talked about sandal of 2026 uses 22 foam nodes to stimulate sensory receptors in your feet, and whether you are a runner looking for a recovery slide or just someone who keeps seeing this thing everywhere, here is everything you need to know before the next restock disappears.
As athletes we’re often looking for some kind of competitive edge or supplementation to get the most out of training.

I’m no stranger to the morning scoop of creatine and handful of vitamins and minerals, the protein powders, electrolyte powders, and any other legal supplements to help this old body better absorb and adapt to the long miles and heavy squats.

What is the Mind 001 Side

Through their Mind Science Department, which is a division of their Sports Research Lab, Nike released the Mind 001 Slide and Mind 002 Sneaker in January. This was an industry first, with the goal being to insert neuroscience into pre-game prep and post-game recovery.

Nike spent several years studying the unconscious aspects of athletic preparation, performance, and recovery, with a big eye on mindset and how their products can affect these elements.

The goal was to help athletes train optimally, perform at their peak capacity, with recovery also at the forefront.

Visually the Nike Mind 001 is polarizing. The triangular side profile initially makes it hard to tell which side faces forward. The tech, however, and what makes the Nike Mind lineup interesting, is in the outsole of the shoe.

22 Nodes

Each slide and sneaker features a set of 22 nodes designed to move independently of each other as you move.

The nodes create small pressure zones in your feet, mimicking the surface you’re walking on and giving you a more grounded feeling. If you’ve ever walked barefoot through a shallow creek and had to be mindful of your footing as you traverse over slippery rocks you understand the concept.

The goal is to improve balance and mental awareness.

This concept is familiar to us runners as well, especially in an era where running shoe midsoles are getting beefier and beefier. Low profile running shoes are becoming more and more rare, but they should have a place in every well-rounded rotation. That extra ground feel allows for better proprioception and in some cases a more efficient stride. Whereas with the thicker midsoles we often allow the midsoles to absorb more shock and delay the firing of muscles that move the legs through your stride.

Whether or not the tech is effective, it is interesting and kudos to Nike for exploring the possibilities.

Launching in All Black

One of the biggest criticisms of Nike’s Mind lineup was the lack of an all-black colorway. The bright and bold color combos weren’t quite what would be called everyone’s cup of tea.

But Nike listened and is releasing the all-black Nike Mind 001 for $95. As of now no plans have been announced to release the Nike Mind 002 in the all-black.

Everything from the upper down to the outsole and nodes – even the swoosh – are decked out in black, creating a more versatile silhouette. The new drop will be available at Nike.com starting at $95 for the Mind 001, where you’ll find the Black on Black on Black colorway, amongst several other new ones.
