Brooks really stepped up with the Cascadia Elite, creating a trail “super shoe” that is lighter, more responsive, and built for long distances without tiring your legs. The shoe has enough cushion for comfort and plenty of energy for speed.
Brooks Running is a trail footwear authority, and the Cascadia line is recognized for its durability and reliability across varied terrain. The Cascadia Elite marks Brooks’ clear entry into the high-performance, trail “super shoe” segment.
All of my runs in the Brooks Cascadia Elite felt energetic and comfortable. It’s light, rolls smoothly, and keeps my gait natural.
And yes, it’s mostly white. Bold for a trail shoe, but after a few muddy runs, it’s clear this thing was made to get dirty.
Who is it Good For?
- Wide Feet: Not really, these are “performance fit” which lean a little more narrow.
- Technical trails: Yes! These are made for rocky, muddy, technical terrain.
- Long Runs: These are made to go the distance.
- Front of the Pack: Absolutely. Named Elite for good reason—these are true race shoes.
These shoes are great for anyone looking for a comfortable, performance-focused trail shoe.
Brooks Cascadia Elite Overview
The Cascadia Elite marks a major evolution for Brooks trail shoes— lighter, more responsive, and clearly performance-focused. The company’s experience in trail design shows in the Elite’s quality and execution.
I tested the Cascadia Elite over long, technical runs in Colorado’s unpredictable spring. It handled slush, mud, and mixed terrain with impressive adaptability. The shoe resists bogging down and maintains consistent traction in even the messiest conditions.
The carbon-infused Pebax SpeedVault+ Trail Plate is horseshoe-shaped, offering lateral and medial stability while allowing natural movement.
I noticed it adds subtle propulsion without altering my stride. I really liked how natural it felt.
The Vibram Megagrip Elite outsole, with 3.5mm lugs, provides quality traction. On loose or rocky ground, it grips really well.
The lugs shed mud quickly, but their lower profile may mean faster wear. I am curious how many miles I can get on them before the terrain whittles them down.
Not that the Vibram outsole was showing any premature wear, it wasn’t, but the shorter lugs may mean a shorter life.

The colors look sharp and fast, but they won’t stay clean after your first run. Light colors are tough to keep clean on trail shoes, but they look great out of the box. We’ve been told by a few brands to get over it and stop mentioning the light colors, but what can we say, it’s noticeable.

Brooks Cascadia Elite Fit
These shoes use unisex sizing with a performance fit. For my men’s size 12 foot, I found the Cascadia Elite ran about a half size small.
On downhills, my toes jammed a bit, especially on longer descents. If you are between sizes or plan to run long distances, I suggest trying at least a half size up.
I thought the toe box allowed enough toe splay, even with the performance-oriented fit. However, those with wider feet may not love the snug feel during longer events.
I was curious to see how much flexibility the upper would allow with the Kevlar. I found the upper held my foot in place without feeling tight.
It offers enough flex for some movement but not enough to stretch out. It feels super durable and I think it would be pretty tough to wear a hole through it.
The textured laces stayed tied throughout every run, and the small elastic lace keeper keeps them in place. The padded tongue helped relieve lace pressure, while the arch felt neutral and supportive.
Overall, the fit feels secure and ideal for racing or fast efforts. However, if you expect foot swelling or prefer more room on long runs, consider going up half a size.
Brooks Cascadia Elite Feel
The DNA GOLD 100% PEBA foam (just like the Brooks Hyperion elite road shoes) is both soft and responsive, offering cushioned comfort and energy return on technical terrain while maintaining ground feel. It is a winning combination that I look forward to putting to the test in a few upcoming ultra races.
The horseshoe-shaped SpeedVault+ carbon plate adds subtle propulsion and structure, helping maintain an efficient stride without forcing my gait. On flatter or faster sections, the shoe really motivates, feeling more energetic than many other “super” trail shoes I’ve run in.
The MATRYX engineered woven upper with Kevlar is durable yet breathable. It let water in when I ran through slush (it’s not GTX), but it also dried quickly. I think it will do really well in the summer heat.
I do love a good sock gaiter, and not all sock gaiters are built the same. This one fits snugly and keeps debris out without feeling too tight. My favorite part is the pull tab. The pull tab makes putting on the shoe much quicker and easier than the Arc’teryx Sylan 2.
The Cascadia Elite is comfortable power hiking on long climbs and also encourages faster running when the terrain allows. It feels really stable and gives me confidence on technical trails while still feeling efficient.
The Vibram Megagrip Elite outsole grips exceptionally well, especially on loose or muddy trails.
I was surprised by how well it sheds mud, given its shorter lugs. I ran through a variety of terrain; mud, slush, snow, rocky and dry trails, and I was honestly impressed with the grip in each terrain.

Our Verdict
The Cascadia Elite receives high marks for the fast, fantastic feeling underfoot. It’s top tier for a racing trail shoe, but we do wonder about the longevity with the shorter lugs and know that unisex sizing doesn’t mean the best fit for everyone.
