As a runner, properly fueling your body goes hand in hand with physical performance. With all the info available today, it’s hard to know the difference between reliable content and what’s just a fad.

Fay Nutrition is an excellent resource for anyone looking to take their health and running to the next level.
With Fay, you’ll be connected with a registered dietitian who specializes in nutrition that pertains to where you’re at in life and with your goals.
Our tester, Taylor, recently had the opportunity to work with one of the dietitians on Fay’s registry. Below, she’ll share about her experience with the program and how it’s impacted her relationship with food.
Here’s what you can expect when using Fay Nutrition based on our team’s first-hand experience.
Getting Started with Fay Nutrition

First things first. Check whether your insurance covers meeting with a nutritionist; it may cover your sessions with Fay Nutrition.
After entering your city, state, or zip code, review the list of specialties dietitians offer. You can choose things based on your health history (diabetes, thyroid health, etc.), specialty diets (vegan, vegetarian, etc.), and what you’re looking to accomplish. Taylor chose “sports nutrition” among a few other options.
Once you hit search, you’ll be given an extensive list of registered dietitians who would be a good match for you.

After looking at lots of profiles and seeing who Taylor thought would be a good fit, she scheduled my first meeting. You start out by entering some information about yourself, such as current medications, activity levels, concerns, and where you want to see improvement.
Your chosen dietitian will reach out pretty quickly and make sure you’re all set for your first scheduled video session.
Fay Nutrition Sessions
The first meeting was about getting to know each other and discussing the goals we wanted to accomplish during our sessions. We talked a lot about where Taylor currently was diet-wise and where she would like to be. Her chosen dietitian made sure she was comfortable discussing each topic, since food and our bodies can be sensitive subjects for some people.
She was caring and respectful about each item of conversation.
After discussing that she was interested in learning how to properly fuel her body during training seasons and in everyday life, the second session focused on “performance plates” and what each meal should look like.

The dietitian took the goals from the previous session and developed a plan to incorporate them and put them into practice. She explained everything clearly and went over topics that needed further explanation.
The third session started with talking about how the goals were going. They talked about adding more items to her goals, which they did. Taylor wanted to focus more on nutrition during training sessions, and the dietitian had a lot of information to share. They worked to develop a plan for the new goals and discussed what would be covered next time.
With each session, the dietitian came prepared to discuss what had been covered and how the time between sessions had gone. There’s the option to discuss the topic, but each time it’s been something interesting and pertinent to my training.
Fay Nutrition App
The Fay app makes it easy to set up new appointments right from the home screen. There is a section where you can add your goals and check off if you’ve completed them.
With each completed goal, you earn streak points. You can earn stars for each appointment you attend. You earn diamonds for hitting your goals.
There’s also a “challenges” portion where you have the opportunity to complete challenges (such as “book a new appointment” and “complete 3 appointments”) to unlock bonus gifts. By collecting these gifts, you’re entered to win “free food for life”, as well as other goodies. Taylor won a $5 Uber Eats gift card!

On the day of your appointment, you receive multiple messages from the app (as well as emails) as reminders about your upcoming appointment, so there’s really no way you can forget. If you have to cancel an appointment due to sickness, etc., you can do so, no problem!
After each session, you’ll receive notes in the Fay Nutrition App about what we talked about, the goals you’ve made, and any information she shared during the session.
This includes infographics, info sheets, and other images that she may have shared during our meeting. You can also send your dietitian messages (via the app’s chat function) if any questions come up after a session, as you start implementing the strategies discussed.
Taylor shared that she learned so much from the registered dietitian she was paired with through Fay in regards to everyday health, as well as fueling for running and exercise.
She found it reassuring to talk to someone who knows her specific situation and can make recommendations based on her health history. Her relationship with food has become much more positive since she thinks about food as fuel, not just calories she needs to manage.
We’d recommend Fay Nutrition to anyone looking to get a leg up on their nutritional goals for running, as well as getting a better understanding of their everyday diet.
**Caveat we have seen some reviews that were not as positive. We can’t speak to those, just the experience that our team had. Our tester received 3 months free to test the service. Please do your own research before trying to know that you feel comfortable with the process and what’s provided.
